The Cannabinoids In Your Flower
Cannabis flower contains dozens of active compounds beyond THC. Understanding what's in your flower helps you choose the right strain for your experience.
THC (Delta-9-THC)
The primary psychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis. THC percentage is the most common metric on flower labels, but it's not the only factor that shapes your experience — terpenes and other cannabinoids matter too.
THCa (Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid)
The raw, non-psychoactive precursor to THC found in fresh cannabis flower. THCa converts to THC when heated — so when you smoke or vape flower, the THCa is what actually becomes the active compound.
CBD (Cannabidiol)
Non-intoxicating cannabinoid that does not produce a high. CBD is one of the most well-known cannabinoids in cannabis, alongside THC.
CBG (Cannabigerol)
Often called the “mother cannabinoid” because other cannabinoids are synthesized from its acidic form (CBGa). CBG is non-intoxicating and found in small amounts in most flower.
CBN (Cannabinol)
A mildly psychoactive cannabinoid that forms as THC ages and oxidizes. Older or aged flower naturally contains more CBN.
THCV (Tetrahydrocannabivarin)
A minor cannabinoid found naturally in certain African sativa landrace strains. At lower doses it's non-intoxicating; at higher doses it produces a stimulating high.
Terpenes & The Entourage Effect
Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give each strain its unique smell and flavor. The “entourage effect” describes how terpenes and cannabinoids interact together to shape the overall experience of each strain.
Myrcene
Earthy, musky aroma. Commonly found in indica-leaning strains.
Limonene
Citrus, lemon aroma. Common in sativa-leaning strains.
Caryophyllene
Peppery, spicy aroma. The only terpene that binds to CB2 receptors.
Pinene
Pine, fresh aroma. One of the most common terpenes in nature.
